Position on Life
We affirm the Bible’s teaching that life begins at conception, and God views the
unborn child as a human being (Psalm 139:13-16; Jeremiah 1:4-5; Psalm 51:5;
Luke 1:39-44). We further affirm that all human beings are made in the image of
God and share equal worth and value. While there are obvious stages of development
from conception to old age, human worth and value never change. Each time the Bible
speaks of the unborn, it is in reference to an actual person, a living human being
already in existence. There is no other conclusion from Scripture except that life
begins at conception. Each human zygote, embryo and fetus is a human being.
The obvious implication to the Bible’s teaching is that abortion in all forms is murder. This includes abortion procedures, “morning after” pills and birth control measures that destroy a zygote or embryo. In addition, embryonic stem cell research or fertility treatments resulting in the destruction of a human zygote, embryo or fetus are murder.
We acknowledge that issues regarding when life begins are complex; but when examined objectively in light of God’s Word, without biases introduced by other motivations, God’s truth reveals the correct answers. We are not free to redefine or reinterpret the Bible’s teaching on human life in order to justify personal agendas. The intentional, premeditated destruction of any innocent human life is always murder and is always immoral. God’s command that “Thou shalt not murder” is all that is necessary to prohibit abortion.
We believe that a biblical response to abortion requires an emphasis on the Gospel. God would be most honored with the abolition of abortion. The providers and clients of the abortion industry are best served by exposure to biblical truth regarding abortion and God’s offer of hope, forgiveness and life in the Gospel.
To the post abortive mother, the Gospel of Jesus Christ declares that you can find forgiveness for your sins and the power to repent and live your life to the glory of God.
To the pregnant mother considering abortion, the Gospel of Jesus Christ declares that God loves you and your baby and that this pregnancy was not a surprise to Him. God commands you to not murder your child.
To the parents of a pregnant teen, the Gospel of Jesus Christ declares that God is the the only answer to our guilt and shame and invites your daughter to find forgiveness and grace in Christ instead of covering her sin by murdering your grandchild.
To the struggling single parent, the Gospel of Jesus Christ declares that God sees and knows your struggle, and He offers you hope and comfort.
To the facilitators and providers of abortion, the gospel of Jesus Christ declares that abortion is always a sin and commands you to stop and seek God’s forgiveness.
To the church, the Gospel of Jesus Christ declares that we as God’s people are commanded to proclaim truth, provide help and comfort and champion the cause of the helpless in the context of love.
